need to make a choice for Nee-ro-ee. If he pronounces androgyne with an extra ee, perhaps that's cause his own name has one at the end.  >:D

Near-o would have been my other guess.

There was no E in nero originally, its also not french....
Its a Roman name, remember the dude with the musical instrument and pyromania?

Near-o is the pronunciation from the Latin, and EVERY pronunciation of said name ever since.
Even the frankocised version was pronounced with a silent E like most french words ending in e

I voted for near-o, however I was tempted to go with an eeee at the end.  >:D

BTW, I recently read that it wasn't true that Nero fiddled while Rome burned, the fiddle didn't exist at that time. More likely he performed recitations, accompanying himself on the lyre.

lyre is actually what it was most likely...
fiddle was a later editing of the story to modernise it... as its not quite as punchy when you have to explain the instrument :P
edit: bloody hell 2000 posts!

Maybe you should read Nero's androgyne pronunciation thread to get the joke here, Rachael.

Dear Y2G:

You are a fo(u)nt of misinformation.

The instrument that Neroé was playing was the lyré.

Renate

excuse' me'  ;)

I think she's calling me a lyre  :P

I remember this one from childhood: I spell it I-T! And pronounce it as I spell it.
