Hello, I am new to the forums and am unsure if this is the proper location for a topic as such. Hopefully I can be forgiven if I am mistaken, but I would like to know if anyone has the answer to my question. If a person...well, if I had a bachelor's degree prior to SRS, what would happen after surgery? That is my big concern, I have worked hard for my grades (3.8 GPA) and obtained my bachelor's in the field I love (Fashion Design) and would want nothing else but to bring that along with me. The name would be different, so would I just have to carry around proof of what I say?

Regarding your diploma, as far as I know, you can change your name on your school records, but changing it on the actual diploma might be difficult.  However, I have never had to show my diploma when applying for a job.  If they do check anything, it will be against school records.  I may be way off here, but this is based on information I have seen.

I changed my diploma. I swore a statutory declaration that professionals in my field generally display their credentials and having my old name on my diploma would interfere with my business by outing me to every new client.

Contact your college and ask them how to go about it. If they won't do it, see what policies and procedures they have in relation to discrimination, because it is a discrimination issue and it is NOT analogous to a woman changing her name when she gets married.

I had both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees changed, on both the records and the diploma.  The Master's degree was very easy.  When I called about my Bachelor's she told me they don't change the name on school records.  Then I told her I was changing genders and she said, "Oh, now THAT we'll do."  Both schools just required a photocopy of the court order granting name change.

Well, this is all great news to hear. At least that worry is relieved.

My old college just required that I show up to fill out a name change form and leave proof that it was done.  Reprinting the diploma was expensive but since no one really knows what one school or another's is supposed to look like, a blank generic and a laser printer was a much cheaper option.
