The older "t" and long hair

A comment was made to me that to look more my age I need to consider having shorter hair. I do know that many (the majority?) women do get shorter hairstyles as they grow older but I wonder why. A sign of getting older? Don't want to put up with the hassle of caring for it?

I like my hair long. I'm just starting transition so maybe it's my "Cinderella Stage"?

I think the length of your hair suits you so I wouldn't be in a hurry to shorten it.

Reason for shorter hair, longer hair more hastle, people
are hitched so attracting someone else is less important and
one important thing, hair density.

Most women slowly lose hair density, especially after menopause
(estrogen and progesterone protects hair density)
as they age and by the time they hit 50, long hair will make the
hair look very thin and the part will show a bit of the scalp.


So, shorter hair for those women, by the time they hit 65-70,
short hair alone is not enough and you have to curl them
also to hide density problems. That's why many older women
have those perms. I hate them.

Also, is in all things, there's peer pressure, why on earth would
you want to look "your age". Never understood why that would
be a good thing.

Doesn't make sense to me either. This peer pressure is coming from a transgendered online friend who btw, has short to medium length hair and is my age. She has not seen me in person but has only seen my picture and I think she is just concerned about me passing. Everyone that has seen me says it looks just fine as is.

I find this reasoning amusing.  I have to wonder if the well-meaning criticism is jealousy based? Not just in my situation, but universally among women. Sounds like a competitive issue. (Which is probably a whole new topic in itself.)

Of course I don't have the heart to say it, but I'm always sad when older women I know (I mean, at least 60) with long hair cut it short. It can look perfectly good short, but I just think long grey hair looks beautiful, very regal. (Dyed is fine too.) I understand the convenience and the insecurity issues about thinning, but I still think it looks so lovely long. I just love the Professor Emerita of Classical Studies look, or the Alice Brock Hippie Matriarch look. It looks just great in your profile picture! Keep it as long as you want it for as long as you want; I'll shed a tear when you cut it.
