The apparent motive in the killing of a gay 15-year-old Oxnard boy raises even deeper questions - questions about American culture and what American children are learning about the meaning of tolerance.

Lawrence "Larry" King was allegedly killed Feb. 12 by a classmate at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, Calif. Fourteen-year-old Brandon McInerney shot King in the head at least twice at the beginning of his first-period English class, prosecutors said.

It happened in a classroom full of students.
