Today, the Canadian Press carried an article stating that in 2004 Lesbians and Gays were more likely to be the victims of violent crime than were straights. The article mused on various possible causes, including being single and going out at night.

That premise does not hold up to scrutiny as the 2003 figures were lower and LGBT's likely did not go out any less nor were there drastically fewer singles in 2003. There was, however, one major event in Canada in 2004 that likely contributed to the violence.
