Longtime Fairbanks resident, Anne Margaret Lee, also known as William David Hawley, died Feb. 11, 2008. in Mount Dora, Fla., after a long battle with her health.

After a bout with cancer 1998, Anne realized that she needed to transition from Bill to Anne, something she had been hiding her whole life. This transition opened her up and made her complete in many ways. Anne was very active in the gay, lesbian and transgender community. Anne performed often in the local GLBT community fundraisers and loved being on stage. She was elected Miss Gay Alaska 2000.
