While the eyes of much of the LGBT community as well as the rest of the country were on the battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama over Ohio and Texas, LGBT advocacy organizations were scoring major gains in states without primaries or caucuses.
Equal Rights Washington announced the Washington state legislature's passage by 29-20 of a bill that would expand the state's domestic partnership law. Gov. Christine Gregoire is expected to sign the bill into law, which will grant same-sex couples additional rights — including the ability to share bank accounts, the right to hold common property and immunity from testifying against one's partner in court, and child-custody provisions, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
