"For years, universities, like other social institutions, have organized institutional spaces according to a few simple and tidy cultural premises: 1) humans come in two clearly delineated biological sexes; and 2) gender, the social enactment of one's biological sex, is continuous with one's sex. Guided by these principles, SUU and most other universities have divided dormitories and bathrooms into spaces for men and spaces for women."
