Punk up Joan Jett - had it not been for Miss Jett and her counterparts there might not be any real punk in the U.S. She was the original riotgrrl. The first female to have her own label. At 21 in 1979 she was recording in London with Paul Cook and Steve Jones. She had her first hit 18 at in the Runaways with Lita Ford, wrote at least two songs that are rock and roll anthems, and still does at least 150 shows a year. Still sells them out. Still got them mad prop Skills.
Of the Rolling Stone's top 100 guitar players, only two are women. Joni Mitchel and Joan Jett.
Though I do love this from wiki:
Jett, a huge sports fan devote, remained actively involved in the sports world. Her cover of "Love is All Around" (the theme song of The Mary Tyler Moore Show) became an anthem in women's sports and was used by the NCAA to promote the Women's Final Four, as well as the song "Unfinished Business" which was never commercially released. "Love Is All Around" went into heavy radio play and became a number one requested song without an existing support CD. Jett supplied theme songs for the premiere ESPN X-Games and has contributed music to all the games since. She also sang the national anthem, at Cal Ripken Jr.'s request at the game in which he broke Lou Gehrig's record.
