So, I just got off the phone with my mom and dad. Pretty-much everybody on my mom's side of the family now knows. My mom told them all, save for the more distant family in Namibia and Vrede. The response has left me amazed and grateful beyond words. The worst I got was an "It's his business. Nothing to do with me" from one or two. For the most part though, these are the kind of responses I've gotten:
My gran: "Ons sal soos tierwyfies baklei as iemand ons kind wil seermaak." (We'll fight like tigeresses if somebody tries to hurt our child.)
My Aunt Alice: "O, ek weet DIT. Ek en Rienie het dit al besluit toe hy klein was." (Oh I know THAT. Rienie and I already decided that when he was small.)
- YAY! Vaidation!!! Heehee...
Apart from the pronouns, I am stunned. I am utterly floored. My mom's family is Afrikaans, generally conservative, religious, and none too worldly. I am humbled by their responses.
Please, just don't let this bubble burst.

There is of course still the paternal side of the family... eeek!
