County Bans Transgender Bias

http://hr.blr.com/news.aspx?id=78146

The Board of County Commissioners for Broward County, Florida, recently voted unanimously to add transgender protections to the county's antidiscrimination ordinance. The amendment defines gender identity as the appearance, expression, or behavior of a person regardless of the individual's sex at birth. Until now, the ordinance barred bias based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, and/or familial status in employment, housing, and public accommodations. In addition to barring bias based on those criteria, and now gender identity, it also bars employers from discriminating against employees who associate with anyone the ordinance protects.
