"It just never would have occurred to me to cast a person that wasn't
transgender," says creator and executive producer Craig Wright. "The
minute Candis walked through the door, there wasn't a single ounce of
opposition."

"We didn't know whether to go with a real transgender or whether to go with a woman," says "Ugly Betty" creator and executive producer Silvio Horta.

What a jerk.

Agree'd. *boycotts Ugly Betty*

Are you boycotting Boys Don't Cry because they used Hillary Swank?
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

The idea that he considered it at all I find interesting.  Its not like casting TRANSAmerica.  Oh wait, it is.  First, you have to have someone, a TS, who is a good enough actress to do this.  That's not a huge group.  The relatively small talent pool of transgender actors - and the one that is, is under contract already.  So...
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Sure i'll boycott all of it  :D

*does not watch, own, or care a thing about television*

I dont even know of the shows your talking about X_x lol

Anyway, on a more serious note.. It has NOTHING to do with the casting. It has to do with him saying, whether he meant it or not, that trans women are not women (just as Redfish said) that has annoyed me.

Well, I don't think the wording is that bad, he had to distinguish a trangendered women from a GG and probably not sure how to say it. Transgendered women would probably have been better.

I'm not going to over react over this.

I'm not even saying I'll boycott the show. Just commenting on how I found his wording to be an unfortunate example of someone third-sexing trans women.

Agreed. I'm not even too happy about the portrayals themselves anyway, they are in general erroneous and stereotypical from what I know.
