well, so yesterday i wanted to go pick up a few blouses, but i was nervous 'bout having to use the men's changing room. i had a very girly blouse on, and my boobs were rather noticeable. also had on some very painful earrings.

so i called my sweetie Lisbeff and told her how scared i was. and she goes, "Well, most stores really don't care where you change." and i said, "but a few months ago, the lady at Sears growled at me and directed me to the men's changing room."

then she told about a bunch of times when she got ruded out by store clerks, while buying girl-clothes in the early days of her transition.

"Finally," Lisbeth said, "all you can do is either go to the men's changing room, or, screw up your courage and go to the women's."

i said, "Ok, i'll do it!"

i made one final check of my accessories and thought, "uh, maybe i need a hair treatment."

so i put in a barrette in my frizzy hair.

when i got in there, the lady who counts the articles of clothing just smiled at me, and said, "go ahead, ma'am."

then i walked in, still terrified, but no one objected. i had been accepted in female space! i felt it was such an honor. i still feel very humbled by the experience.

as i was driving, on the way there, i saw a group of young women crossing the street. they were just out and about, enjoying the sunshine, and all of them could have been symbolized by the female symbol of a hand mirror, intersected by a comb. all except for  one, who was wearing a bright yellow soft cotton top which showed that she was extremely pregnant. for her, a mirror and a comb just wouldn't quite do justice to her beautiful image. how could men, or anyone, see her and think she were somehow inferior? she, a living aspect of something truly sacred to us?

Well, congrats, that's great  :)

But to be honest, that does not surprise me the least. I have only your avatar pic to judge from, but I everytime I see it I think that I would have never thought you were anything but a born woman had I met you on another side.

And regarding the inferior thing...I don't get it, I don't get it at all. It's always the same: They don't have a penis--they are inferior! They are black/yellow/whatever--they are inferior! They want to have sex with the same gender--they are inferior! And you probably could go on like that for hours...very sad, actually.
The human race in general seems to have a major inferiority complex that needs something to look down at to compensate...

OMG!

I got bitched out by a retail chick at the Sears by my house too! I've heard stories from my girlfriends too about how Sear's employees get really catty at them, too. Wtf is up with that? Sears must hate customers.

Low class stores sell low class stuff and get low class people to do it.

But I shop at Ross and Target and equally "low class" places and I get treated just fine.

I'm kinda fond of stores that are owned by the people working there.  Or little boutiques, or flagship deals, and where you are has a lot to do with it too.  Shopping in Cali is not like Oklahoma City.  But I have heard bad things about Sears, and Penny's too.  But in SF we don't have any of those.  Or a Target, or a Wallmart, or a KMart, or any of that, big box stores are not allowed, so I'm not even sure how they work anymore, its been over a decade.

So I went to Macy's the other day to spend some of the money Uncle Sam is returning to me this week.

I found what I wanted, and asked a clerk to direct me to "a fitting room I could use." (My specific words.)

She pointed to the fitting rooms. She did not make the slightest suggestion I should go downstairs to where the men's fitting rooms are.

Mind you, I was not in "girl mode".

Pretty much anywhere I have shopped for womens attire this has how it's gone. If I don't get respectful service, I'll just leave. But stores tend to like paying customers, so it has not been an issue.

The weird thing was that when I paid, she asked me if I was doing "some Mother's Day shopping." ??? Um.... Who gets their mom or wife a couple of lace trim tops, slacks, jeans, and a light trenchcoat on clearance for Mother's Day?

I said, "no, just shopping." "Oh, okay." Right then.  :-\

I guess my presence there was just so innocuous she probably forget me the moment after I spoke to her the first time...

well, congrats from the Warrior Princess, Ell.  and Alyssa, she probably figured you were Mother's day shopping for yourself, i've been many places, where guys and salesclerks whole doors and address me porperly and send me to the correct changing rooms while dressed completely masculine. for those of you concerned about big box stores, i do work at a walmart here in ohio and they are willing to help anybody with anything pretty much. they have been really kind with me about my trans status. i speak for all of them at least in my store that we're not here to judge people. so every walmart's not so bad. none of them are suppose to be because we have a respect the individual for who they are policy. i do admit that a few of the associates are quite disrespectful of women period no matter what though, but that's that inferiority complex we're starting to talk about.....

:) Thanks, Mickie. You're too kind.

(But I don't believe it.)
