Not much on Snow Patrol, they are OK, but not as good as their fans seem to think they are.  But Laurie Anderson is, even at her worst, pretty much totally awesome.  I don't ever think that she got the props she deserved when she was doing those fantastic records like Home of the Brave and United States Live and Mister Heartbreak.

for the records, from wiki:
Anderson was born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where she graduated from Glenbard West High School. She attended Mills College in California, and eventually graduated from Barnard College magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, studying art history. In 1972, she obtained an MFA in sculpture from Columbia University. Her first performance art piece – a symphony played on automobile horns – was performed in 1969. In the early 1970s, she worked as an art instructor, as an art critic for magazines such as Artforum, and illustrated children's books.

Love your taste in music Ell. :)  Radiohead are my favourite band.  ;D  I also love Kate Bush and Enya.

The live record is awesome.  I wish it was out on DVD because she had slides she took that went along with all the music.  I remember doing the show, we had to show up a day early because we drilled through the stage so that we could run all the cables under the stage instead of across the deck.  The visual was stark.

As good as the studio records are/were, they had nothing on her live gigs, she was the first great performance artist after all.

for some reason, i'm kinda partial to her fully-formed songs, and discernable melodies.

I heard Laurie Anderson in concert once, fantastic, and yes, as great as the albums are, she is a performance artist and the visual adds another layer. I've got a bunch of her older albums, apparently she recently released a new one which I haven't heard yet.

Three times now, beginning a few years ago when Trent Reznor had them open for NIN.  They have played the Fillmore and Warfield again since then.

Live is the only way I hear music.  When I'm home its cool jazz and classical.  I never listen to the radio except for KPFA.  So I never hear any new music until it shows up where I work.

Yeah, people go "Wow, you get to work with all my favorite bands" and I reply, "Yeah, I work with all the bands you don't like so much too."

And, I get to see people I really like go out and if not suck, at least fax it in on occasion.  And I watch people I don't really like go out and shine.

So, its a mixed bag.

I have one.  I used to have two.  Both FtM trans bois.  I had to suggest another, more corporate route for one as that person had some serious substance abuse problems in the past, and Rock Concerts in San Francisco are not the best environment for that.  But the other one, was nicknamed (and our nicknames last a lifetime in this biz) Crash on the very first show - Smashing Pumpkins - that they ever worked with me.

Through no real fault (but sort of) Crash moved a box, and in so doing dropped a moving light worth about $14K.  Panicked beyond all level of life itself, the poor thing looks at me and asks what was to be done.  (I'm sure, because I've talked to Crash about it since then, that it was going to be the end of the career).  But I was not going to lose an apprentice, so I said, "we're going to put it back in the box and I want you to find some orange tape, put a big X on the top of it and write "NFG" on it"  "What's that mean?" was the reply.

We had had a conversation about names, and Crash didn't like the female one they got stuck with at birth, so I - I do try to respect people once in a while - didn't use it, so I just said, "Crash, NFG means 'no f***ing good' and from that moment on Crash it was.  And I told Crash that I would do my best to just forget it (largely because its Smashing Pumpkins and I have a deep and abiding hate of Billy Corgan so screw him....) but they better never ever forget that I forgot it.

We've been an awesome pair since then.

if anything starts happening in that arena, i'm your girl.
1) well, actually i don't have any experience except working a little tech in college
2) only motivation is being able to see lots of live performances
3) also totally dig theater and modern and classical dance   *sigh*
4) i guess that's not much of a resume, but there it is
5) *deranged squirrel grin*

Well before you sign on my last gigs have been, O.A.R., Ted Nugent, Earth, Wind and Fire, Travis Tritt, The Temptations, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Lifehouse, and Kenny Rodgers.  Of that bunch, The Temptations were near perfect, and Ted Nugent was really good even though I hate him.  The rest sucked.
