Accidents aside, its one of the classic jazz records by a true master.  For many people it was their first exposure to stuff not done in 2/4 or 4/4 time signatures.

Yeah, Brubeck is a classic, a standard, but Phillip Glass, that's not your everyday item at all.  I love the soundtrack to the trilogy Koyaanisqatsi Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi as much as I love the movies themselves, but I think he did great work for The Illusionist also.  But I adore The Photographer which was based on the life of Edweard Muybridge.

But I pretty much adore anyone who studied with Nadia Boulanger - in a world of pop crap music, she makes the gold.

Phillip Glass is what I put on when I want to end the party, without telling people to leave.  That or Bela Bartok, Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste.
