Hey Alice,
A few things to keep in mind, knowing where you are coming from and the experiences you have had with transition:
1) When they start and you are thinking "OMFG!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW PAINFUL THIS IS!!" just remember that this has a purpose. You have been moving down a path that you have been considering and that you are comfortable with. It's going to hurt, a lot, but it's quick, no longer than probably 1/2 hour. Grin and bear it. Get through it.
2) Kate was right, swiss cheese hair! You will probably have big patches of missing hair and some hairs that don't leave. Just get through it.
3) Don't plan on being able to shave for the first 10 days and actually REMOVE hair. Your hairs are like steel wires after laser and they do NOT react to being cut. If at all possible, try not to shave them for a few days, then shave them.
4) Don't get frustrated because the hair isn't falling out. Mine didn't even
start falling out until the 7th or 8th day.
5) Lots of ice, aloe, tea tree lotion, etc. The sooner after laser the better, take ice with you. Try to schedule your appt for mid afternoon Friday so you have Sat and Sunday to heal. It will look like a sunburn.
6) I told people "I'm having some laser work to get rid of ingrown hairs" that didn't know what was going on, it worked. People don't really dig too deep into it really.
Good luck

I'm sure you'll enjoy the follow up electrolysis on any white hairs
