I was listening to NPR like I usually do on my way home from work...well, except today I was headed to the Astros game. Whatever. NPR is pretty much the only way I keep up with local, national, social, and global issues. They tend to have good interviews, but today I was shocked. Not to say it wasn't a "good interview", but the subject matter and what our society is tolerant of is appalling.

The interview was with parents of a "diagnosed" transgendered pre-teen. Their child was born male, but when he was 10 or so, he became uncomfortable with who he was and told his parents that he was supposed to be a girl, and he wanted to change his name to Violet. Like any "good" parents, they said, "Sure, whatever you want. What do you need?" And that's a direct quote from the mother.

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

It may have been pointless but I did post a reply.  The person who made the entry while sounding trans/homo phobic did seem to be curious to know more.

We'll see...
