Personally, that was the reason I continued playing EverQuest as long as I did. I joined with some of my friends in middle school and then they all lost interest and I didn't. I continued to play because I was extremely unhappy with the way my life was. EQ was a strange thing for me because it was the only place I embraced my feminine identity until just recently. Seeing as I was only in middle school when I started, I was wholly uncomfortable with the feelings of questioning identity that I had. I made my character a woman in the game, and for many many years that's where it stayed. I poured a lot of time into the game because it was a lot easier than confronting my feelings for sure. I had my feelings in game, but once I stood up from the keyboard I had to go back to being an adolescent boy again(WHICH SUCKED). hence why EQ has about 180 of my days. half a year- as a woman but before I'd even consider the possibility being remotely true. I stop playing when I go to college and I cant shake the feelings, and so now Qandica(my character) has slowly permeated into my life(except without the rogueish backstabbing and chain mail).
In actuality this is a very small portion of the reason for my shift, but still it played its role and now I've left it where it lies(somewhere on a server in California).

That was totally why I became so absorbed in WoW.

I started playing as something to do when I was working on call from home.

Then I got completely hooked, I was able to be a different person, and forget about all of my issues for 5-6-12 hours at a stretch.

It seriously controlled 3 years of my life. I raided into naxx pre-tbc, and we cleared through mu'ru before the 3.0 patch.

I logged in the day after 3.0 hit, we killed KJ, and I retired before the Wrath expansion hit.

I've been WoW free for a month now. It feels good, but the temptation to log in is still there. (of course, I'd have to go buy the expansion and then put time on my account before I could do it now). Pretty sure my GF would leave me if I did.

My main was a 70 human female warrior - Flutter - where my name here came from. She not only had full T6 tanking set, and 7/8 T6 DPS set, plus all the other little extras...... and she's a Scarab Lord, so yes, she has the once per server bug mount.

(I did say I was an addict)

(If you're not familiar with the Bug Mount, because it is an extremely rare item, it involved uncountable hours of solo questing, about 15 hours of dragging a 20 man raid around farming for drops, a 5 hour BWL clear, items from Onyxia, Ragnaros, and a trash drop in MC [do you realize how ->-bleeped-<-ty it is to have to loot every corpse in MC as the main tank?] kill 3 outdoor bosses [A big shark, Maws , Dr. Weavil, and a Satyr in the emerald dragon portal in Duskwood that only spawned if you had the quest to kill him] all leading up to a world event in Moonglade that required at least 80-120 people to show up and help defeat Erranikus..... and after you did all that, and both factions finished collecting the war drive stuff.... two days after the war drives ended - you could ring the gong in Silithus to start the invasion event, and then anyone else who completed the chain had 10 hours to ring the gong in order to get the mount [the title was added later]. All told, I put about 3 weeks of real time into getting this mount, and I had it easy because I didn't have to farm Cenarian rep before I could start the chain because I transfered servers.... that was a 2 week ordeal for most scarab lords. And yes..... that is exactly how big of a WoW addict I was.)

In addition to Flutter, I had Flustered - 70 human priest, Elsbet - 70 gnome lock, Phinaes - 70 night elf rogue, Volleygirl - 70 Night Elf Hunter, Goatsechs - 56 Draenei shaman, Solipsist - 46 human paladin- all on Executus. And Elsbet - 70 Blood Elf Paladin on Vashj (US).

Flustered and Elsbet both had decent starting t6 level gear (1400 spell damage +)

Flutter was over 200 days played, Flustered had over 100. I'd say between all of them I was approaching 450 days played in 3 years time.

You may be able to armory Flutter, I think she was last logged in in DPS gear because I just wanted to play with Titan's Grip once.

The other toons probably don't show up on armory because they haven't logged in in over a month.

And Flutter...... was a total butch dyke.

Like.... hardcore boycut and scowling face.

Mia Kitten

I'm a WOW addict.  There are a few aspects of the game that really put me off (mostly technical problems) so I've tried several other MMO's to break away...always go right back.  However, my play time has gone down considerably since I have started to embrace Mia.  I think video games in general are a way to escape reality (explains the first 24 years of my life anyway :P ) Of course, I still love my WOW time ^_^

Anyway, if anyone plays horde-side Baelgun let me know!

BTW, is it ok if I link that comic to another gaming forum I post on? It's Warhammer Online, but we just had an expansion and there are four million Knights of the Blazing Sun running around atm, so it's very fitting.

I was wonder if there are any other people out there play this or any other Massive online Role playing game's
to forget about the real life trouble and enter a digital fantasy world where u can be somebody els....

No thanks. I don't like this kind of thing, the whole fantasy/role-playing thing is just not for me. I know a lot of people who are into it, many of my friends, I just...it's just boring to me. I think you either enjoy it or you don't. Put me in the category of not enjoying those role-playing games please.

I play WoW! I've got a completely awesome guild too, Horde side, Bloodhoof. I also play A-side on Shadow Council and A-side on Dawnbringer.

I've been playing for 4 years now, it's addictive, but a lot of fun! It's awesome that you can be whomever you want in an MMORPG. I usually let people just assume that I'm male (which 99% do) and only correct them if I must or if we're becoming friends.

I actually met my boyfriend though WoW, so it's been nothing but a positive experience for me. The way I see it, everyone has hobbies. You might bowl, or play soccer, or cook. I enjoy many other hobbies, but WoW (and gaming in general) is one of them and will remain for quite some time. It doesn't have to suck your life away.

I notice someone said you had to put 30+ hours a week into WoW, and that's simply not true. While earlier games like EQ1 and such did require a tremendous time input, WoW is extremely casual friendly. You can certainly be a weekend gamer and be very successful. WoW is great in that you can get a lot of reward for a little time. I play a couple times a week and have multiple 70s (the max level a few months ago)

;D  I play WoW too, for 4 years now. It's been everything from a wonderful way to spend time to simply something I tend to drift towards when there's nothing else to do at the moment. But I stay because I have family and friends there.

I recently got into WoW, I've only been playing for a few weeks, my character is only a level 18.

It's the MMO part I have issues with. Or, to isolate it further, the second 'M'. Don't know why, really. Maybe the unpredictability.

I quite like Warhammer, though. At least, the Games Workshop tabletop version, so if I were to check one out, it would probably be that one.

I got a mail off some friends in sweden to go and do a raid on Ironforge last weekend which is always really fun to freak out the allys and generally spoil their day:)

When i play its pretty darn funny and laid back, just a social thing with the other girls in my guild.

No if only i spoke fluent Swedish....Avancerade svenska kurser nĂ¥gon  :P

Yeah, I'm playing that. The nice part, for those who don't like to commit to grouping with ppl all the time is that a lot of the content is soloable, and groups are often open, which means you can just jump in, do what you want to do, then jump out. So it's as social as you want it to be.

As a guild we tried Warhammer for a month to see how it faired, it was nice as you say the questing was better but alot of iffy areas, really bad pvp compared to wow and other small things put us off.

I will try it in a year when they have ironed alot more out, was fun though just a shame about some things.

Being a huge fan of Warcraft 3 and Starcraft I bought wow almost immediatly when it came out.  However I thought the game was lacking the epic plot and story of the previous games so I quickly passed judgement that it wasn't for me.  Well about a year or two later my friends started getting into it so I revived the old account and fell in love this time.  I would end up getting 2 70's and 67 before I quit last summer.  I want to see Wrath(I heard it finally gets back to the plot of warcraft 3) but I don't want to spend the money with SF4 and RE5 coming out in the next couple months.  Not to mention my rl friends all quit around the same time I did.  What are you guys impressions of wrath so far and is it really that much better then BC?  All raids having 10 and 25 man mode sounds awesome to me too.

The general opinion I've encountered is that alot more people enjoy this expansion than the last. There are PuGs of almost every raid now and there are a few quests out there that give you more of a "I actually accomplished something" feeling. The main one being the wrathgate questline in Dragonblight. You actually get a cutscene during it which gives it the epic feel, I won't spoil what happens for you though  ;)

If I were you I would give the 10 (or is it 14?) day trial a shot so you can see if you like this expansion enough to resubscribe for a while. It even occurs to me that I once heard of a GLBT guild somewhere.. you might be able to find out more if you searched the WoW forums about it.
