i wonder what will become of me after i die. i kind of believe in reincarnation. maybe i have had previous lives that i don't remember. if there is such thing as reincarnation, i won't have to be trapped in a transgender body forever. i could just do my best to pass as a female in this life, because it wouldn't be until the end of time. it's a mystery that i wonder. i think there always has to be a part of you somewhere that has a brain or one of the five senses.

Sooner or later you are going to find out.  Why rush it?

Your body decomposes and the minerals return to the Earth. A recycling of the building blocks of life. And if you're lucky, grave robbers will steal your bones.

I don't have a religion, but I'm not one of those rude buggers who denies God exists or anything. If there is a God, I simply lack a connection to that God at this time. I don't have a reason to believe in God of a life after death. Why would we call it death if we were to just keep living? I consider death and life two separate planes of reality (except Schrödinger's Cat).

So I think when I die, time stops. No memories. Nothing. I guess that's part of why I think it's okay to take chances and live life on a whim.

Love Tekla's answer.

Nobody really knows, we can just guess. My guess is we go to heaven or become ghosts. I think the heart goes on still in some form. I'm a Christian but i there is a heaven, I hope it's not the version I heard growing up, as standing around praising a god for eternity would get old real fast.
I'm more keen on the Muslim idea of 70 virgins.

It's 72 virgins.  It's very specific so people can spend forever saying, "If I said this once, I've said it 72 times, less teeth......."

what happens after death?

I think that depends on what one is really.

i kind of believe in reincarnation.

I have been remembering past lives for quite a long time indeed. In my frame of reference reincarnation is a fact. ... But then again so are some "mythological" things are as well so *shrug*.

Well I'm not interested in sitting on a cloud plunking a harp.  Simply put, death will be the end of suffering, pain, hunger, aging, loneliness, isolation, and fear.  I look forward to being reunited with friends and family.  At that time, gender will no longer matter, and the time-space continuum will be no more.  All of the human-made institutions concerning religiosity will be stripped away and I will know things I can only ponder right now.  The truth and the presence of God will not be a foggy theory any more.  It will be another dimension of living entirely.  There will be new energy, new purpose, and new challenges, and a completely different body in which to accomplish them.  I will feel sorry for absolutely nothing I have left behind.

first, i agree that it is impossible to tell. though every religion has an explanation.  my explanation, which i try to keep based in what we know about the nature of the universe is that there is no life after death.

we are made of matter, the same stuff that makes all of the inanimate objects. we are the chemicals that evolved into the complex machinery that you see in all biological organisms. we are just material and when we die, that complex machinery has failed (why would there need to be a soul in the gears?). i know it may feel like there should be more, but without mixing in human emotion that's what i come up with. consciousness itself is just a kind of illusion, people were never really alive in the sense they thought anyway.

I haven't a clue. I have some notions though, but those are just notions. Why not live in one world at a time, seems a whole lot less taxing that way.

what happens after death?

Hopefully a very long and restful sleep.  My body is just a vessel, but my spirit, who knows where that will end up?   :)   ;D

Exactly. I will find out soon enough (but not TOO soon, I hope).

I believe that the soul is an energy field that is joined to the living body and provides its life force.  When the body can no longer respond to the life-giving force of the soul, death occurs and the soul becomes 100% universal awareness.

Our souls act as a thread which is a tiny part of a net that is the tapestry of universe, binding us all together at the origin point of the multiverses.  We are all part of the multi-levels of reality, the Oneness.

I believe I'll join an army of spectral ninjas.  On skateboards.  Battling dinosaurs.  With swords made of lasers.

Seriously though, the afterlife thing seems silly unless you admit all forms of life into the same afterlife.  Humans surely can't be special in that regard because we haven't even been around as long as some other forms of life (do beetles get 72 virgin beetles?)  The Earth hasn't even been around forever, so when/how did the afterlife come into existence?  Is heaven divided or is it shared across all forms of life across the Universe?  It makes no sense.

Everything we do has an effect on the world that triggers an infinite chain of events that goes on beyond our death.  That's what will happen after I die.  Everyone who's posted in this thread has made some form of impact on me now that will last forever and ripple outwards and outwards again, feeding back to me, you and everyone in the world, forever.

I know I'm going to pass on Tekla's joke about the 72 virgins anyway :D  Oral sex jokes... a fine legacy!

Why not live in one world at a time...

How boring! Never!

I don't do the death thing. Not exactly anyway. It'll catch up to me one day, or maybe I'll stand still finally and let It catch me.

But not yet ;)

But I also agree with Tekia.

I believe a varity of different fates we have in store for ourselves depending on several factors, our awareness at death (specifically, do we realize when we have died), our spiritual ability and aptlitude (are we capable of building our spirit at death for our conciousness to reside in, and transferring our conciousness from our brain to our spirit), as well as power (are we able to defend ourselves in the afterlife). I don't believe that a living being has a soul or spirit, I think that's something one needs to create when they die. Morals don't matter IMHO.

With that said, I think that most people end up dead dead, with no afterlife, some people are able to sustain themselves after death, some people may possess the body of an unborn child and become reincarnated, some people may go off to other worlds, some may stick around, etc, you get the idea.

Thanks Tink. Do I remember this little flick or not.? When you watch this, feel it within your own heart and it will open the door ever so slightly so you can peek through and see this place they call heaven.

Hi Kate, no I'm not ready either. When I am I know where the bus station is, where that inter-dimensional Greyhound bus comes to take us home after our mission here is done.

Maybe when we arrive at our destination they will issue us a magic wand so we can create our own reality.
I got me a song in my heart and I want to dance around a couple of galaxies before i leave.

Hi Alex, may Great Spirit bless. I love how your mind works.

My thoughts are pretty simple, but rather complicated to explain.

The easy version, I believe in reincarnation after a nice nap.

you hope you become a ghost, not roast somewhere desolate, parched and thirsty. wandering the earth on the wind, looking for someplace to park your weary feet, hiding in abandoned buildings, looking out dirty windows onto dead end streets. fading in the sun, materializing again in the gloom, trying hard not to feel like the only spirit in the room.
