Had therapy yesterday (Monday) and my therapist is gonna give me my HRT letter on our next session in two weeks!!!! Heather will FINALLY be alive then!!!. God, I'm so excited, nervous and so many other emotions right now...that's normal right?

Still need to lose some more weight, which is a real concern for me right now too. I don't need it to be any harder that it has been,  but I really want HRT!!! Advice anyone???  ???

Also, I came to a co-worker a couple of weeks ago and she has been AWESOME!!! She even gave me an entire make up set in a really nice case!!! :)

Electrolysis and Laser are going great...painful :o , but great.

Thanks for reading and all of the support!!!!

Congrats!

Have to ask: How long have you been seeing the therapist to get to this point?

Thanks Shane & JackieR!!!!

JackieR: I started therapy in Oct 2007. I was diagnosed w/ TG and severe depression...NO SURPRISE THERE, RIGHT? My therapist wanted me to get a better grip on the depression before moving on to HRT and I of course had concerns about losing more weight too.

Hi Heather,

QuoteStill need to lose some more weight, which is a real concern for me right now too. I don't need it to be any harder that it has been,  but I really want HRT!!! Advice anyone???

My weight loss slowed dramatically after HRT. I had to lower my calories and increase my exercise just to
keep from gaining weight. And I used to be able to eat anything I wanted... now it seems like my body
sucks anything extra up and stores it as fat. My advise would depend I guess on how how much you need to
lose. If it's a lot just know that it will be a lot harder after you start... or at least it was for me and I think
due in large part to muscle loss.

That is so awesome!! Congratulations!! :icon_hug: Well, as far as the emotions go, it is a pretty intense rollercoaster ride. I am still dealing with it as you know.

Amanda: ya i still have quite a few lbs left, so i thank you for you're advice :)  i don't want to delay the HRT, but as you've said it's harder. gonna really have to think this over, thanks again :-*

Your welcome Heather :) I just wanted to add one thing... if I had known the joy that
HRT would bring I think I would have started BEFORE I lost any weight. Just something else
to think about. I think others here might agree.

It would be a lot easier to lose weight without the HRT. Seriously lol, its really hard. I keep the calories REALLY low. I feel like a mouse when I dine. Just crumbs and nibbles. Don't ever dream of eating the way you used to or how much you used to eat.

Aw Heather honey! I'm so very glad for you - it's about bloody time!

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight, unless you are very overweight - like BMI 28+. Even though I am still a bit overweight, I am so much more comfortable in my body right now, that all those old feelings of "must lose weight, must look perfect" have quietened down a fair bit. Sure, I still want to lose the weight, and get twinges of jealousy when I see very lean, toned women, but I know that by eating right and exercising I will eventually get there.

Even more positively, this more positive self-image has eaten into my old eating disorder habits significantly. I used to be a huge binge-starve exercise bulimic, but since starting HRT that "This is my last one, so I'll have lots, make myself sick and never have them again" drama is going away.

So I'd start the HRT. I think for most of us, when we are in denial, we confuse our gender-related body issues with weight issues, even while binging, in many cases, I think, in order to gain weight and be more andro. Once your body starts changing to the shape it is supposed to be, things will even out - just don't look at too many airbrushed cover girls!

Congrats on that letter! It's a wonderful feeling isn't it?

I had my first consultation just yesterday - so I feel we're on the same page [kind of]. When my therapist wrote me the letter, it did take a little while before I could actually go to the office. Now that the checkup is over, I now have to wait 2 more weeks for the prescription - which I find is nothing compared to the past 18 years.

I was planning on losing weight - and I already lost 2 maybe 3 pounds since summer started. I can't see myself having trouble slimming down to a shape that I want - mostly because maybe 80% of my weight problems are due to diet and inactivity. The inactivity was due to depression - and thats virtually vanished. I'm working up some diet ideas for the 80% but thats about it.

Robin, Thank you. I hear ya on the weight loss thing, it's the same for me really: lazy ass-depressed grrl here :-\  I have already lost over 250 lbs. (diabetes will do that if you listen to your doctor), but I do have more to go and I'm worried that my weight loss will slow down way too much. My problem has been with the depression, and I have been on "Effexor XR" for approx. 4.5 mos. now and it has helped which is why my therapist was now willing to give me the letter. The depression as I'm sure you and everybody else here will agree causes the lack of motivation which of course slows everything down. And even though I've really noticed that when I do exercise I feel a lot better, it's getting myself out the door during those really depressive periods to the gym or out for a walk that's the hard part.

Thanks again!!!

Is there anybody you can go out exercising with? I find making exercise a social thing is the best way to make it regular - one of the reasons why like classes so much. It tends to become a thing about not wanting to be seen as the lazy bum who never comes to class, that tends to be the most effective motivator! ;)
