Sorry all to start up a new topic on the pms thread when I started one not to long back...but I have to rant even if it's something stupid like this. Ok well here it goes.

My favorite holiday is Halloween. I absolutely love it because I super love dressing up and feeling "free" that day.

Well since it's only four months away til October I've been wondering what I'm going to dress up as. I came up with a good one because I never saw anyone dress like this and I thought it'd just be cool. I wanna dress up as Mola Ram from Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. Well the costume looks remotely easy except one thing. The headdress. The headdress he wears looks awesome but I haven't seen a headdress anywhere that looked like that so I know it'll be hard to find one like it. Well I found some womans website about how her and her husband dressed up as that and they made their own headdresses out of paper mache. Well I told my mom about it and....she doesn't sound to thrilled but she said she'd help me (if I knew how to use paper mache I'd do it myself) All I'd need is time and an area to work and I'd do the headdress myself (oh Mola why does your headdress have horns to make it 10+ difficult?) Well anyway, what makes me flustered is my mom just told my dad how I'm looking for the horn headdress or planning on making one myself and my dad is like "I'm not getting involved in it" why, because it's to hard to make. I know my dad wasn't gonna help anyway I don't really care if he does or doesn't help (he doesn't like the character anyway oh phooey) but any minute as I'm typing this he's gonna ask me "why do you want to dress as that?" or "you're not really going to make that costume are you? it's trouble for your mom" or something stupid like that. I'll tell my mom to let me make it myself I ain't that selfish....->-bleeped-<-....I dunno I'm sorry I just needed to rant that out. I'm flustered I really wanna dress up like that but that headdress is gonna be a pain in the balls. My dad saying that (or going to say) just made me feel dumb and selfish because I wanna go through that hard work but my mom taught me this "if you want something done you're gonna have to go through with it and do it" she's taught me things about if you want something done thoroughly you're gonna have to work hard and keep at it to get it done. That's what I'm planning to do with this. I'll do it by myself if needed (I'd prefer it).

Here's a pic of the "original" character who wears this costume

Oh, I hate it when that sort of thing happens! Perfectly understandable that you should need/want to vent. I guess the only thing you can do is make it clear to your dad that his help is neither needed nor expected, and your mum is also free to help or not, whichever suits her. Sounds like a fun project to undertake yourself anyway. Good luck with it (looks complicated, but should be effective!). :)

*huggies Lutin* Yah it'll be complicated but hopefully if I can get started on it and have it done before Halloween

I don't know if you already know about this, but in case you didn't, I thought I'd suggest you look at your local craft store for metal mesh to use as the base for your paper mache.  You can mold it into shape, and it makes a solid, yet light-weight foundation to work on.  You should find it in the sculpting supplies.

I think I may have to use paper mache in the end (if they don't sell any kind of already made headdresses) I'm not even sure what metal mesh is (I never used paper mache in my life so..that's why I don't know) I will remember the metal mesh though. I heard paper mache is light-weight and I suppose that's a good thing.

edit: I've been trying so hard to try to find a way to make this headpiece but no one online has any kind of instructions or any kind of help for this..I really don't want to give up on this because it would be so awesome if I could make it but no one else online or any0hwere has tried this before and I can't get any help on it...this is another thing thta royally blows (sry for the added rant..it's just frusterating) I asked for help on this cosplay forum (cosplay.com) and nobody answered me....retards..

Costume stores may have something similar as we get closer to the holiday.

But I have used wire coat hangers (no Mommy Dearest lines please) and chicken fence to do projects like a bomber and even a volcano or two.

Good luck with it and please post pics if you do make it.
