(Washington)  The Human Rights Campaign is calling for a criminal investigation into a case of alleged police brutality against a transgender woman in Memphis, Tennessee.

Surveillance video, released this week, shows a police officer brutally abusing Duanna Johnson while she was held in the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center.

Johnson is a transgender woman who had been arrested on a charge of prostitution.

The one who held her was fired. The one who did the beating is on non-enforcement duties. Which means he is still being paid. WTF?!? And we so need to have the media outlets contacting someone other than the HRC turncoats when it comes to Transgender individuals.

What that means very likely is that the one who was holding her was still in a probatinoary period and could be immediately fired. The onen who did the hitting has civil service protection until he has a hearing or mediation through the union and the adminsitration of the department.

He's sure to go as well, it's just that they cannot fire him out-of-hand.

No they cannot but they should be able to suspend him. First with pay and then without. having him fly a desk obviously does not remove the threat from the police HQ.

I have no disagreement with your pov, Mnemosyne. But, I also think that importance of union employment is worth maintaining. I doubt he's on a desk dealing with the public. He may well be washing and detailing police cars at the city garage. :)

Having once been a part of a Union I disagree in their importance but that is deviating from the subject at hand. May justice be swift, extremely brutal, and throw one more bully off of the police force.
