Hi everyone!

It's been a while, but this is Fae, and I was on the boards about a year ago...I wanted to come back because I'm in need of some support, it's kinda hard for me right now.

I'm still going to college and plan on graduating in December with my bachelor's degree in women's studies with a sociology minor, hopefully going into advocacy work for the transgender community.  I've been on hormones for over a year.  I've been full-time for 9 months and I pass in public and at work without a problem (though I still have to shave my facial hair  :( ).  I've had all my records changed, but sometimes there's conflicts with the old name and gender  :-\  I'm planning on having an Orchi in the fall and I'm really nervous about it and just sort of feeling sad because my gg friend was telling me how she had sex with this guy, and he fingered her and everything and I realized I'll never be able to experience that (even though I'm a lesbian) because i can't afford srs.  An Orchi is the best I can do because I'm really poor and I need to finish school, but part of me still wants to have a vagina and I can't.

Sorry I didn't mean to ramble, but I'm a little emotional and need someone who understands.

Hiya Fae,

I don't remember you from before 'cause, well, I wasn't here a year ago, but it's always nice to meet a new person ... or even an old-new person around here.

I can so relate to what you are saying about SRS though - I'm desperately trying to scrape together enough money to go back to university next year AND afford HRT, Laser and all the rest at the same time, so by my best estimate, surgery is at least a bachelor's and a couple of years of work away ... I turn 30 this August. :(

But on a happier note, it's SO very good to have you here! Welcome Back!!!

Hi Fae, well I only been here for the past 10 months but I was here well in Susan's chat 8 years ago. Well we not likely met but welcome back to Susan's and I do hope that we will cross paths again. Wish I could help you in how to acquiring funds for SRS but I'm afraid I don't except for when you complete school and begin working in your trade. I beleive that a good lot of the girls here just saved up the money in some way or another.

Welcome back Fae. What kept you away?
Good luck in your studies and best wishes of success in your chosen career. You might be poor now as a student but after your graduation with your knowledge and certifications you'll be able to start a career and earn money, specially if there is a demand and a need for your skills and experience. So it might take time but eventually you'll be able to fulfil your dream. Don't give up and enjoy the journey.

Thanks Simone, I wish you luck with getting your own bachelor's.  I was fortunate enough to have my health insurance help out with HRT and was able to talk to a wonderful counselor at school who has been very supportive, basically for free (it was covered under the student health fee).  I will be turning 25 this fall and hope to celebrate it well after the orchi.

Maybe it was less than a year ago Cindy, I can't remember :eusa_think:

I don't really plan on having SRS, because I think it's just too much for me.  In cost, pain, recovery, and the risks...it just seems like too much.  I think once I have an orchi I'll be alright.  I'm just jealous of my friend who already has a vagina and I don't, it's very frustrating sometimes.  :eusa_wall:

I think I'll be alright "living in-between" though I don't really think it's "in-between."  I'm just a woman who has a large clitoris!

Some things are more important for me to accomplish now.  I've come a long way in my transition to womanhood, and I think I've come far enough.

I just needed to find my own path Maebh.  I needed to figure things out for myself.  And it's true; we all go through transition alone, and that's why I was away but now I'd like to reconnect.  I only hope once I graduate I'll be able to find a decent job, though I'm not sure how much in demand my skills will be.  :-\

Hi Fae, I'm glad you found space for yourself and that you got the support of your school counsellor. I am sure that you will be a good one too when you finish your studies. On top of it you will have inside knowledge and first hand experience yourself which should lead to true empathy and make it safe for other struggling with their own acceptance and identity. Judging from some of the posts on this site these very special and much needed gifts are in short supply out there.

Hi Fae hon, I am not certain about in the US, but there is a lot of demand for anyone who desires to work in the field of transsexual/transgender suport here in Vancouver BC. There are many different types of positions open, I recently got on as a peer suport worker with them. Just thought I would pass that on.

As for the amount of time spent waiting for surgery, I waited a good many years before I got mine so I would try not to fret much about it, the right time will come, that is about all I can say about that.  Yes, "You are a lady," and you will have some very amazing and wonderful discoveries as you discover more about who you are during your journey to be who you are. I realy don't believe there is any end to discovering who you truly are, Heck, it's been 8 years for me and I am still discovering new things
about myself.

Have a wonderful day

Thanks Maebh, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to go into counseling right away, as most positions require a master's degree and I cannot afford grad school right now.  I'm thinking more towards activism and achieving rights for transgendered people.  If I ever did decide to become a counselor, you're right; I would have a lot of inside knowledge that many counselors don't.  In any case, I just hope I can help my trans-sisters and trans-brothers.

Thanks Cindy, I will look into it.  I'm sure there's many things I have yet to discover about myself.

Hello, Fae,

Welcome (back) to Susan's.

I read your first posting.  I don't know if you're in America but if you are, your degree might well be a help in finding a job in the new, incoming government.  Contact your congressman and ask about submitting your CV and transcripts *to date*.  I am guessing that there will be entry-level positions in several cabinet-level agencies, from Health and Human Services to Veteran's Affairs.  I believe that a publication referred to as the "Plum Book" will be released by the incoming government in November.

You might also consider looking for recruiting firms specializing in placing persons with your degree in entry-level slots.

As they say on the web, hope this helps.

Thanks Wing Walker, and yeah I am in America.  Personally though, I'd prefer to not work for the government, even in a new administration.  I'd much rather work for a non-profit organization.
