Awareness and acceptance are the goal of a state Senate bill on education.

This is in response to Laura Riddle's piece ("We don't need homosexuality taught in school," Her Voice, Wednesday, Page 11). I believe the appropriate title for my counter to her argument is that we must teach diversity and acceptance in our school.

Folks must also separate out sexual preference (which is not known until puberty) from gender. The transgender focus is on identity. There should be equal rights for transgender children in kindergarten-through-12th-grade classrooms and also "normal" children who have lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender parents or family members.
