Apology to gay rights activists arrested 20 years ago

The Hobart City Council will apologise to the gay and lesbian community for actions dating back 20 years.

In 1988 the council banned a gay reform stall at Salamanca Market, which led to 130 arrests.

The Council tonight voted to make an apology to mark the 20th anniversary of the confrontation.

It's also voted to host a council reception later this year for those involved in the arrests as well as members of the gay, lesbian and transgender community.
