My mother just got married 1 weeks ago. It was a spur of the moment thing. My father and mother have been divorced since I was 14 years old. Since then my mother has been remarried countless times, most to people I have never met.
The current husband (or victim as I seem to think of him), has been conversing with her for 5 years on the phone, a few personal meetings, e-mail, and mail. I hope he isn't a convict.
Well the past week, she has attempted to call me around 6 times. Normally I stare at the caller ID and ignore it. Two days ago I accidently answered it.
As soon as I did, I knew I was in for it.
We talked about the family a bit her and I. About my sister and her boyfriend (with new baby) having relationship problems (he cheated on her).
Eventually the conversation came to the point i dreaded. She said "would you like to talk to him?" then immediately passed the phone over to him.
He started by talking about Mardi Gras parties (which I have never gone to, despite living a hour away) and how many parties he has gone to there. Then asked me if I like sports and such. Then he paused and hesitated saying" Oh wait! Your the one that dresses like a woman or something like that." Held my head, my temples shaking my head. And then let him quickly run out of things to say.
For the first time talking to someone that my mother just married, and trying to get to know him, it was extremely awkward.
I had congratulated them and wished them well. I was just hoping for light talk and conversation about how they met and corresponded together, not about me. I am just hoping they stick together, though I hope you understand my hesitancy (she has been married like 5 times since my father).
