Newly elected Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo) has declined an invitation to this year's Human Rights Campaign gala in San Francisco. But Speier's reasoning has nothing to do with the boycott against the national LGBT lobbying group's fundraiser.

In an interview this week with the Bay Area Reporter to mark her first 100 days in office, Speier spoke out against the HRC protest by local LGBT activists and their allies.
