today is his birthday

so there is a lot of back story
that i will not even begin to
approach in this thread

suffice it to say
for nearly 20 yrs of
my life and all of my son's
life, we were in a "religion"
that, in the last 8 months
i have come to realize was
a cult.... and part of the
requirements in this b0rg
was an adherence to the
policy that birthdays (and
a multitude of other "celebrations)
were forbidden and unscriptural

all right... fast forward to now!

today is my son's first birthday
out of the cult and in his genuine life
(15 in actual time on the planet)

i just woke him up with a
buttercream frosted cupcake
and a candle ( glittery blue)

he cried

so did i

this is my baby....
it is amazing how fast
they grow up....

i am happy enough for him
being able to voice his needs
wants dreams aspirations
and yet there is a clear
yearning for life to be less complicated

I worry that as we grow, life becomes more complicated, not less so.  Time may take choices away, but they never fade, and what seems so easy on one end, is a lot harder on the other as you come out.
