Is a third sex category really necessary?

The purpose of this article is to examine the issue of whether "sex" is a socially constructed category, and if there is a need for more than two sex categories. The position that I will take in this paper is that sex is NOT a socially constructed category, and that in the current cultural climate a third sex category, especially if it is publicly assigned, could be detrimental for the assignee.

For me, no... I've always identified with being a girl/woman and I do not feel in any way that I am a third sex. It's something which I really would not want to be included in and I am rather unhappy when I am lumbered into that pigeon hole.

However, there are some of us who don't identify either way... For them it may be the right thing...
