Perhaps Isis' inherent testosterone will make her less of a
cat-fighting attention whore than the other divas in training.

If Banks, the CW and co. want something to talk about, why not just
allow men to participate in the show? Then Isis could stand and
deliver without the surgery.

All I can even... think is...
WHY are all of these talk shows and teevee shows snatching up transgendered people?
It's RIDICULOUS...
Oprah, from what I've seen, HARDLY knows the difference between orientation and gender expression/identity.
I want to go on her show JUST to be like "listen, woman, you have got this all wrong. if you get it wrong once more, i'll clean your clock."
And also, I've noted that more often than not, they are focussing on MtF [no stabs at you, ladies]
Thomas Beatie was the last FtM that I've heard of who was on a teevee show with a large audience.
There was ONE FtM on the first 20/20 special "my Secret Self"... at least that had a long follow up and stuff.
I think after the Beatie incident, no FtMs really want to get involved.

I figure Isis has as good a shot as any of those other girls, and they [Tyra already has] should excuse the fact that she was born anatomically male. She's just as much of a woman as any of the other models.
The one thing I DON'T want to see is Isis getting booted off right away [unless she did poorly in the competition.]
And I don't want to see her win [unless she did THAT well.] BECAUSE she's transgendered.

Awh Society, how I loathe thee.

Well, her heart seems to be in the right place, but she does need to do some studying.

isis is a beautiful girl period. she's a girl, and she has modeling potential. it shows that tyra is a human being to bring her in for that reason alone. she is a homeless girl, and she was apart of the first photo shoot last cycle. she has experience in modeling, and they have seen it. caitlin must've missed out on that.

Keira

This show is such a joke, no real model of importance has ever come out of it!!!

The top models don't get to be top models just for their looks, they're usually
driven and intelligent.

  •

iminadaze

I agree with Keira that the show is a joke. But I think Isis is driven and intelligent.
IMHO she showed that last night. Even with the GG's bashing her she did
quite good, better than some of the GG's. I wish her the best and look forward
to seeing how well she does in future episodes.

QuoteIf this was a true attempt to be open-minded and progressive, I would applaud the ANTM team.
QuoteThis must herald the final chapter of "America's Next Top Model." How do they top this? Lizard people?

Wow...seems a bit hypocritical, don't you think? She talks about applauding them if their true intentions are to be open-minded - leading us to believe that she too is open-minded - and then makes a comment like this? Hmm...

I agree with Adrien.

I don't have the stomach for all of the nonsense anymore. I just was at lunch listening to someone explain to me why Obama is a racist.

I am happy that Isis has a chance to do what she likes to do. I wish columnists would stop being ignorant.

it is hypocritical. she wasn't brought into the competition to top anything. she said that she applauds them for being open minded, but then she says they only did it to top something. there are going to be more cycles. the writer obviously doesn't know what she's talking about.

Is it just side effects from the Red Pill, (tm) or is it just me when the only thing I see out of this mountain out of an ant mound is the hype being used to gander higher ratings? (read: produce more advertisement revenue)

edit for clarification
In the ideal world Isis would have been described as just another girl whom happened to have a birth defect, (the you know what you know where) instead they (mostly religious right retards) are like: OMG freakshow on the CW!

I know its going to come as a huge shock, but your TV set has an off button.  You don't have to watch it.  Most of the people I know do not, for a bunch of reasons, mostly because they are too busy living their real lives to get all involved in other people's made up stuff.

You know, they call it programing for a reason, and as far as I can tell is that TV pretty much draws idiots like iron filings are attracted to a magnet.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

and I'm idiot #1.

Who dares to challenge me?

Of course, I only watch shows of the highest quality and class.    ;)

I'm surprised no one has brought up the issue of the title of the article.  I find it obnoxious and dehumanizing for Isis as well as every other trans woman.

Isis isn't a "->-bleeped-<-" she's a human being and she certainly isn't a mess.  The title is slanderous and panders to the worst in people in order to grab some cheap attention.  The author ought to be called on it by not just a few people so they think twice next time, before using objectifying insults to grab readers.

Yeah... if Isis is a "hot ->-bleeped-<- mess," then we're all screwed!  ;D

On the surface it may appear as though Tyra is finally doing something for the community by way of acceptance and exposure, but the reality is it's just another gimmick, along with the fat girl, the austistic girl, the blind girl, which will be used to get ratings and cause drama aka good television.

I'm happy that Isis is honest about not wanting to be shown as a representation of the trans community, which is completely fair and understandable.  That's a lot of pressure to be seen as an icon on a pedestal which will magically change America's minds about us.  She's just a girl who wants to model.  Unfortunately for her she's just another tool in bringing about another season.

Fyi.

I have had a chance to speak with and correspond with her personally now on several occasions. She has been sweet, soft spoken, and entirely unpretentious. She seems to have a very strong and very real desire to succeed in her chosen field, as is her right and her dream to do so.

Modeling is to some, seen as the height of pretention and superficial objectification, but if that is what she is good at, and sincerely wants to pursue as her career interest, all TG issues aside or included - either way, then she should by all means. Not only that, but do it extremely well, as an added bonus of being able to break down stereotype and misrepresentation about people like us. She is doing this in her own way, and in the forum provided within this particular industry segment.

Since she is a native of my home state of MD, Equality Maryland is going to feature her as one of our community honorees at the upcoming EQMD Jazz Brunch event that we sponsor here, every year in November.

Unless you know her personally or have had the chance to speak with her yourself, i would strongly recommend reserving judgment or comment about her, in a derogatory manner of any kind.

Like her, or dont like her - like the show, or hate the show - shouldn't matter - what matters to me is that she is one of us, and deserves the full respect for putting herself out there as fearlessly as she has done, and will apparently continue to do so, if given the opportunity.

Thanks,

Most Respectfully,

I have only watched the show a few times so I'm not too familiar with it, but I hope they're bringing her on the show because they think she has a chance, rather than just because she's transgendered for the rating and drama. I don't like how the article was written though. Witty as the writer might try to be, it just comes off as insensitive and rude to me.
