While preparing this music tour, Mendez said she wanted to spread a positive message to the gay Latino community.

Joe Granda, one of the tour's executive producers, and Ron Brenesky, chairman of the Unity Coalition, a Miami-based nonprofit group advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Latino communities, suggested addressing the problem of gay youth suicide.

Méndez agreed.

Studies indicate that 33 percent of LGBT youths attempt suicide; the rate is four times higher than that of heterosexual youths.
