I really pity the daughter in all this.

Regardless of the Palin family stance, the daughter did not ask, nor did she expect to be put under the blinding light of worldwide scrutiny.

I can imagine all the back room discussions going on between the campaign organizers and the Palin family.  It really isn't fair.

We should leave her alone.

However, the political issued raised by this, abstinence only vs education and condoms, will become magnified in the public consciousness.  And in many ways may push the republicans off message.  Causing them to talk about that when they may want to focus on more global issues.

I've thought about whether or not Palin would resign her candidacy, ala Eagleton, but in that case, the vetting process consisted of him being asked whether or not he had anything that he was ashamed of.  And he was not ashamed of having had shock therapy to cure depression.  Here, Palin was vetted more extensively, but I would have thought that the vetting would have also come up with the possible responses to any negative issues.  I'd wager that she will not be asked to resign, nor will she offer her resignation.

I for the life of me can't see how she could raise a kid with down's syndrome and be VP, but of course, 'Pubs don't raise the kids, nannies do.

And if she didn't want the kid in the spotlight, she should have turned down the nomination.  Sorry, if you run on family values, your family is open season.

Its true, if you have a pregnant 17 year old and run on family values and abstinence, and
accept the VP nomination, you cannot expect that this will not come up. She's the one
who put her daughter in the media; its not the fault of the "big bad media" tm .
I'm tired of people in the public eye making their living out of trying to feed the
media fabricated pablum and then being all surprised when they want to eat
pizza instead.

If she wasn't such a right winger coming from the most right wing state, I doubt
it would be mentioned.

Also, if you think that if Chelsea had a pregnancy and it wouldn't have been mentioned
by the republicans, well I've got a bridge to sell you...

Teen sex happens. Pregnancy happens. Put two and two together, and.. well, ->-bleeped-<- happens.

My main beef with McCain and Palin is that he scrutinizes Obama so often for his inexperience, and then he turns around and chooses a running mate even more inexperienced than the man he's picking on.

I hope Palin's daughter doesn't catch too much crap, considering her mom's views and the media who probably are loving every minute of this.

What pisses my off more than all the teen prego blah is that the sperm donor father of the child (Levi Johnston) probably won't get as much as a slap on the wrist for the results of his irresponsible behaviour.

WTF?

I agree, except that this is a baby not ->-bleeped-<-.  I pity the child a few months from now, being born into a world where the media circus will surround her, win lose or draw.

Yes.  I think that is the issue all of this should be focusing on.

I honestly believe we need an inexperienced person in office.  I'm not kidding.  I have no respect for most of the experienced people.

for some reason, the old 'experienced' people govern with cowardice.

Mistakes in learning can be costly. We want someone that knows how to win the game but is void of the old connections.

Look at the Gore kids. His wife pushed family values and see what she produced. Being naive is not going to solve things the way knowledge can.

I hope the media and others don't jump on this girl. She got pregnant, so what. A lot of girls get pregnant. It is her mother that is running and not her family. Let's look at the issues that are coming up and with us at this point.
I have to agree. I fail to grasp the importance of the lives of the candidate's children. They aren't the public figures running for office. I wish the media would leave the poor girl alone.

My girlfriend was 17 (almost 18) when we got pregnant. It was OUR decision to marry. Our son is 19.5 and our daughter will be 17 in December. Our 20th anniversary is later this month. For us, it worked out. But no one forced us to marry. I sincerely hope that Gov. Palin isn't forcing her daughter to have the child and get married, but I would not be surprised if that was the case.

If it is the case, I hope everything works out the best for the girl and her child. And one key step for that would be for the media to BTFU out of her life.

There, I've cleared my colon and now I feel better.

True, that's the way it works. But common decency demands otherwise.

LOL Kristi, my joke was an attempt to inject a little balance in the discussion by pointing out that the people on either side of the aisle are human and make mistakes.  Whether their name is Palin, Kennedy or Bill (I did not have sex with that woman) Clinton.

Then :Newt Gangridge cheated on his first wife while she was sick with cancer. The republicans have no end of cheating husbands including the Senator who was ....  All this while they were impeaching Clinton.

Lisa, that's my point.  Neither the Democrats or the Republicans should really be trying to take the high ground on moral issues.  They aren't perfect and none of them, Obama included, walk on water.  These people are in a position of power and some people, men and women, find that attractive or useful.  So there is constant temptation thrown at them (sex, money, etc.) and many will eventually succumb to that temptation.  The House, Senate and White House are and always have been a (excuse the expression) hotbed of sex and scandal.

I guess I just don't understand this McCain has horns and a pitchfork while Obama has wings and a halo attitude that people seem to have.  Guys and gals, you don't get to the United States Senate without stepping on a few toes and having a couple of skeletons hidden.  Didn't Obama have to distance himself from someone in regard to his home financing?  Look at it this way.  Even disregarding transgender issues, how many of us could stand up to the scrutiny that all of these people go through daily.  I'll be the first one to say, not me.

So concentrate on the issues.  Environment, economy, security, foreign relations, etc and who can do the best job overall.  Not on Sarah Palin's daughter.

By the way Lisa, Clinton broke the law and Newt Gingrich is just a jerk start to finish.

The scary part is the Republicans make decisions by what God tells them, but the Democrats are secular and use rational thought.

Then if you believe that, vote Democratic. All I'm saying is have a reason for voting the way you do other than ABC, Fox, CNN or the New York Times tells you that's the way you should vote.  Don't rely on the garbage disposal that is the modern media to make your decisions for you.

Rebis, I halfway agree with you.

This is incorrect. Republicans make decisions by what they want God to tell them. The teachings and commands of Christ are usually at odds with what the GOP condemns or condones. Warfare and execution are expressly forbidden by Jesus' words as recorded in the Gospels. Republicans will invariably dance around this fact.
