The young wordsmith came to prominence when he translated Yoshimoto Mahoko (aka "Banana")'s "Kitchen" and went on to translate another of her novels, "N.P."

"Kitchen" was a phenomenal success and has been adapted into two films.

It is the prize-winning story of a young Japanese woman named Mikage Sakurai who struggles to overcome the death of her grandmother.

She gradually grows close to one of her grandmother's friends from a flower shop and ends up staying with him and his transsexual mother.
