A year after his murder, Charles H. ''Chuck'' Darr's friends are memorializing his life in a place he spent so much of it.

At 6 p.m. Monday, friends will meet at St. Mary's GreenHouse Gathering Place, 723 Emerson in Saginaw, to dedicate a memorial bench in Darr's name.

Darr, 69 at the time of his murder Aug. 4, 2007, volunteered frequently at the GreenHouse.

''Chuck spent most of his time here,'' said Barbara E. Arbuckle, director of St. Mary's GreenHouse.

''I know he really did a lot for the GreenHouse,'' said Leo Romo, an adviser and member of Perceptions, a nonprofit organization devoted to fostering a positive image for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, to which Darr also belonged.
