i think your point makes a lot of sense cindi. does seem like the thing many of us think of first...i don't like the rules so i'll change the game. there is a lot of discusssion about just that in pc usa. some people who actually do support people like rev edwards don't speak up too loudly for fear of driving people out of the church. our church here in the states has already split once, over treatment of women, and i guess those who lived through that horrible experience are loathe to go through it again. i know it is a concern of my pastor. just yesterday we were talking about the trial and the new proposal our general assembly made this year concerning ordianation of lgbt folks. pastor ben supports the idea but doesn't want to get too involved. as of right now, he says, although it makes him feel like he's chickening out, he is ambivolent about the outcomes. he believes that in a generation the whole thing will be moot as the larger culture will drive us into assimilation. he's a big believer in the bottom up kind of leadership...and makes a lot of sense to me....impatient as i am.
there is a movement within our church to move the lgbt movement along called "more light presbyterians" i'm happy to say that within this group there is no talk of breaking off, the goal is to bring the church along...change the rules but keep the game.
