Here you go - it's all coming out into the open now. We know expressions of racism are just below the surface for too many people in this country as the prospect that we actually could elect a black man as president. For some it is so unsettling that they simply cannot contain themselves at this point.

A Florida middle school teacher faced disciplinary action after using the word "->-bleeped-<-" to describe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, WJHG's Kristy Wolski reported.

The 7th grade teacher, Greg Howard, asked his students what "change" stood for in relation to the Obama campaign and proceeded to write out the acronym "come help a ->-bleeped-<- get elected."

A lot of things have come out of the campaigns and from ordinary citizens. You still have people with this kind of mentality and you will always have it. Makes you ask 'Have we progressed as a nation?' Many white folks say this election isn't about race but unfortunately it is. How many knuckleheads have been put into positions because 'their one of us'. There are people in high positions that aren't qualified to fill those positions. Barack Obama is NOT one of them.

This teacher is unqualified to teach any child because of his racism. I would have a HUGE problem if he were educating my child.

I agree Gennee, that teacher has no business working with kids and exposing them to his racism and ignorance!

I truly hope Obama wins! I heard him speak at a high school in NH a year and a half ago, I think he will be a great president.

This campaign has served to teach me a little bit about what white privilege is. Never having to know how racist some people are is truly a privilege of the worst sort. After the last year or so, I know a little better now.
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

When I was a child I thought racism was a thing of the past, something my parents talked about but that I would never have to face. Then I grew up. I saw the real world, and I saw the blatant racism right here in my home city. I saw it in my friends and even my family at some points. It's no surprise to me that people speak this way about Obama because of his race. I'm convinced that half the people who say they're going to vote for Obama are lying but they can't say "I don't want to vote for a black man" so they'll just go along until it's time to cast their vote and, since it's anonymous anyway, vote for McCain. Then again, next to Obama, McCain is a complete and total joke--seriously, I couldn't stop laughing at the debate last night. If McCain wins, this election will be a dramatic illustration of the lingering racism in our country, because at this point the only thing McLame's got going for him is that he is white. If he wins, I'm moving to Canada.

This is the year 2008 CE, right? Not 2008 BCE?

I hope this "teacher" is fired and is never again permitted to "teach."

Ahh Shades, your missing the key word here, Florida.  Florida is the state that was put into the nation so California is not the leading producer of nuts.

That may be true, but I don't think being famous for being the nations source of a certain kind of fruit is anything to brag about either. :P

Hey I like the state (well huge parts of it) just fine.  Its just that a very strange and odd set of demographics have put the state in the control of some of the most wack political types in American History.  And hey, I live in Cali, and we know political wackos, for sure on that.  Got a few from the Southland, a couple from the interior, and not a few from the Bay Area too.  Look no further then our gov, who is gov because he was a B Grade Hollywood Action Star married to a Kennedy girl, and that was better then the guy we got rid of because he was boring.  Well, Arnold has not been boring.  Dumb yes.  Politically impotent?  You betcha'.

It's just that, like California (and a few other places too) its very much 'not America' but very much its own place in its own space.  And the demographic deal has made it all but impossible for any sort of liberal government to get to power, and has all but ceeded power to the extreme right wing which can get its act together enough to govern, no matter how poorly.
