When will McCain/Palin finally choose to end the politics of hate?

I'm not holding my breath in these last desperate weeks waiting for an end to it, but Brave New Films and The Color of Change are calling for McCain/Palin to condemn the hate and fearmongering being perpetrated by those angry mobs of supporters. They stoked the fires and now we see this:

....We'd like to talk about the pressing issues facing our country: the woeful economy, rising unemployment, the housing crisis, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But we can't talk about them because John McCain and Sarah Palin have distracted us with the politics of hate and fear.....

The answer to the question is:

Never

Even if they win, dvisiveness will be the rule.

I'm thinking they won't win, not the way the Cons are all leaping overboard with life-preservers. Pam has another post about that.

But, I agree, Cindy. At this point they will not, maybe cannot, quit without alienating even more of their base. They're already polling in the low forties and much more hemorrage will see them begin to rival McGovern and Goldwater for all-time lows in the popular vote. The result will be an inflamed minority that will include some of the most virulent and liable to violence haters out here.

Nothing like setting the fire that brings down the ship if the passengers aren't voting me captain.

While I live in California, I live in the redest neck of the woods you've ever seen. I wish that I could pass on a history of the involvement of the sheriffs department in racisim here.....  You should see the hate mail I get from acquaintances who do not know where I stand on the issues.  They think I am an allie.  I am not.

While I fight and rail against injustices, I'm holding my cool on this one.  First, there is indeed a real risk of physical harm for making a stink.  In our local political organizations, we are continuously warned about violence threats against Democrats at rallies and such.  Our sister city has also had experienced violence just by carrying political banners at a planned event.  They too are warned before events.  Secondly, where do you think that I'd get my material from?  It's delivered into my email box. I don't even have to search all those hatefu sources for it!

And finally, I am extremely active in my efforts with letters to the editor and in city council meetings.  I find myself quite safe in these two venues.  From personal experience, these types don't actually read the paper or get involved in the actual practice of policy making.  All they do is act like thugs. Wouldn't you know.....
