Kids Pulled From Transgender Teacher's Class

http://www.kcra.com/news/17714619/detail.html
10/14/2008

A music teacher at Foxboro Elementary School, who was formerly a
woman, returned to school as a man at the beginning of the school
year.

The teacher, who was not identified by KCRA 3, is now being addressed
as "Mister."

Some parents told Travis Unified School District that they feel like
their rights to know were violated.

The school district should have informed the parents.  It can be done without violating his rights.  I am living proof that it can be done.

What the hell would a parent do differently if they were told ahead of time? Preemptive class reassignment?

Its ridiculous that they'd care about a music teacher being trans. Its not like thats the class thats heavily involved in politics. What are they gonna do? Corrupt the youth with evil devil ->-bleeped-<- music?

Cisgendered people could never really understand transsexualism. So the privacy is a human right for transsexuals. Post-op transwoman can only live in some kind of dignity in case only very few people know her history. This is at least some cases a human right issue.

Hmmmmm... I wouldn't necessarily say they never would. They can at least be ok with it and understand from an observers perspective. I know someone who dated someone who turned out FtM, and she's totally fine with me. She does understand why someone would do it, but just not on a non-vocally translated level.

Like deep feelings that there aren't many words for. Those are what she wouldn't be able to understand completely, but otherwise they could...

Even in the USA there is at least one positive ruling about the issue. However it was not a work-related.

Yes, apparently they will corrupt the youth. I'm a trans music teacher, I should know  >:-)

Do YOU want to explain the situation to young Sara's parents when she comes home with short hair?  Huh?  How about when little Johnny starts dotting his i's with hearts?  God forbid we allow this horrible, contagious plague into our schools, undermining our haphazard and arbitrary social constructions of gender!

It's amazing how people can turn on others when they learn things like this. I believe he had every right to keep that info to himself, no one needed to know that, it's completely personal.

This reminds me sooooo much of my mother it isn't funny. She told me point blank if she ever knew her kids were in a class with a transgendered teacher, she'd pull them out immediately. Gosh it ticks me off :icon_burn:

Well written. Privacy is one of the key issues of the transsexuals' rights that should promote.
