I think it's disgusting to vote on people's civil rights, rights that ought to be protected under the US Constitution and every state constitution. You might just as well have a referendum prohibiting people of different races from getting married. It's even more disgusting to vote on taking away rights that people already enjoy and possibly even nullifying their lawful marriages (which would require a court challenge).

It's beyond belief, and any reasonable justification, that marriage needs defending in any way. Most people are heterosexual. Most heterosexuals will continue to get married as they ever have. Heterosexual marriage is completely unaffected by allowing same-sex couples to tie the knot. The only people who will marry people of the same sex as themselves are people who are already gay.
