An observance of the Transgender Day of remembrance will be held on November 15, 2008 at the Cleveland Heights Christian Church in Cheektowaga, at 7:00pm.  (http://www.welgoss.com/chcc/ <~ a link to the church's website.)

This event is planned and sponsored by Spectrum Transgender of Western New York, The Transgendered Couples of Western New York and Outspoken for Equality, an LGBT rights organization based in Buffalo.  Light refreshements will be served after the ceremony.

Donations for the church will be solicited and are by no means mandatory.

I'd love to see you there!

On November 15th, My spouse and I and I attended and I participated in the 2008 Transgender Day of Remembrance in a suburb of Buffalo, Cheektowaga, at the Cleveland Heights Christian Church.  The link below will bring you to a photo archive of the ceremony that was placed into the Spectrum Transgender web site.  Spectrum is one of the the trans support groups that sponsored the memorial.

While I wished that the attendance had been a bit larger I was grateful to be able to participate in such an important event.  No matter what people may think about trans people, I believe all can agree that we don't deserve to be murdered simply because of who someone thought we were.  Too many people, however, are ignorant of what happens and how our lives are degraded - even after death - because we happen to be different.  I think it behooves all of us to learn and and speak out about this oppression.
