This is a new low for the Rotting Crypt Keeper and his inbred gang of hate merchants.

Personaly I cannot imagine the amount of self-loathing and violent sense of being left-outside this man and his family must feel.

I think that's the ultimate result when one becomes so very convinced that they speak with "the voice of god" that they never stop to appraise exactly what they say and how their actions speak much more deftly and convictingly than their words ever have.

I imagine the "karma" he has within him is what burns him so already. He preaches "love" and yet continuously shows the absence of love within himself, or at least a bit of compassion.

Anyone and everything becomes a means of him spewing forth the terrible hatred and alienation he wishes to get of himself due to how badly it hurts him, I imagine. The message is horrid, but I imagine the pain within him is far more horrid and in need of some truly deep healing. I hope it comes to him.

Yes, clearly he's in deep pain. Can you imagin e having the gig to be his therapist though?? eeegads! They'd have to go home and have a lobotomy after therapy sessions to get his crap out of their minds. :o

The grand thing about being a therapist, Z, at least in a private practice is that I get to decide who to allow as a patient. :)

To answer your question. "No." I wouldn't muck about in that psyche for all the tea in China. The hip-boots and oxygen masks and nuclear radiation suits haven't yet been made that would protect anyone from a psyche like that one seems to be.

Nuclear radiation suits sounds about right! It seems rather unlikely that he'd come for help though.

There's a recent documentary about Phelps called Fall From Grace, but I can't bring myself to rent it.

I find the man abhorrent (especially considering my own religious background, he's everything I have come to see that is wrong with conservatism gone awry).

To put things in perspective, isn't his church basically just a few families left at this point -- maybe a membership of under 100? All basically spiritually inbred?

Sometimes I wish the media would just ignore him. They only exist because they are listened to. If they were utterly ignored and it no longer suited any purpose for them to picket, that would probably discourage them far more. I find that when you meet a fundamentalist with fire, all it does is give them added zest for responding.

Wow!

You know who he reminds me of in terms of action and even a little in appearance?

The Reverend Henry Kane, from the 'Poltergeist' movies.

Zest must be the answer, Jenny!! Thanks so much. All this time I've been wondering why the smell got worse the more thoroughly you scrapped the skin off that lot!!

Zest is definitely the answer; just like with lemons in the kitchen. Twice as much smell!    >:-)

That was a good post, seriously. :)

Thanks so much.

The thing is that money can buy you anything.  This is includes this wingnut.  Someone is pumping money into his rants.

We need to have someone to pump money into our issues and a lot of it.  Then our issues will be on the local and national news.

Won't the guy have to buy tickets to transport his gang to Hawaii?

How much would that cost?  Then hotel rooms even if only for one night. Wood and materials for signs. Nails.  Cab fair to the burial site.  Getting shaken down by the secret service.  I guess that last one would be free. Cab fair back to the airport. Peanuts on the flight back. Headphones.

Where do they get the cash?

I've read that they sue towns who don't let them demonstrate for violation of freedom of speech. A percentage of communities choose to settle out of court rather than deal with a lawsuit. So that's where they're getting the cash. BTW, one of the Phelps clan is a lawyer.

His "Church" is not about love,
its not about hate,
this is a church about headlines... plain and simple.

the hate message is just a tool to get headlines.

If a headline that is seen by 20 million generates donations from one tenth of one percent  that's still 2000 persons  making a financial contribution to the man church.

If you want to hurt this guy. get  news organizations to ignore him. headlines only help him he is not worthy of a headline good or bad.

"But who is that on the other side of you?"

Now, isn't there a way we could use that outrageous behaviour against LGBt hate?  Kind of like the martial art Aikido, that uses an opponents insanity and energy and turns it back on the opponent, deflecting the attack?

Maybe if there were a whole bunch of '->-bleeped-<-s' surrounding them when they protest, holding up tall screens that hide the Phelps gang from view of mourners and the curious that turn out.

There'd be media there, and the opportunity to be seen performing a service in respect of the President-Elect's deceased grandmother.

The Phelps clan gets their free speech, we get ours.
