Greetings all,
I've been reading the forums and occasionally chatting here for a couple of weeks, and figured it was about time to make an introduction.
My name is Dana... now anyway. You wouldn't believe the mental gymnastics I went through coming up with that. I've gone by many other female names in the past, but those always seemed easy as they were only temporary. I was free to play. Choosing the name that you intend to go on your drivers' license and job applications for the rest of your life seems like a whole different kind of thing.
Anyway, I'm 39 years old from Minneapolis, MN. I'm a MtF transsexual. After about a year of therapy I finally decided that transition was the most sensible path for me, and am just now making the necessary arrangements for that to happen. I'm having a physical with a TG friendly general practice physician as a preliminary step for going on hormones. That appointment is this Monday. Feels like a kind of "official" beginning in a way.
I am also married and have three children, aged 8, 6, and 4. My wife knows about the decision to transition, and while she's struggling with it she's fairly supportive. Just scared and uncertain where that leaves our relationship. I'm not entirely clear on that one either, but I hope we can stay close and communicative as things go along.
Anyway, that's my story in brief. I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say in the future. Nice to find such a friendly and supportive place on the web.
