All of the top SRS surgeons have performed hundreds, if not thousands, of surgeries.
Out of these numbers it is an almost statistical certainty that something, somewhere will go wrong.
And out of those myriad of people, someone, sometime, will have results that they are not satisfied with.
Surgery is NOT safe! Major surgery more so. And SRS is MAJOR surgery.
Surgery is an extremely perilous effort that surgeons themselves often liken to driving at high speed, down a dark road, on ice, for several hours. You will never be closer to death, and live to tell about it, than when you are under general anesthesia.
Every effort is taken to ensure the health and safety of the patient, but things can still happen.
So, yes, hearing of stories from these world renown surgeons about less than optimal results is understandable.
What you have to do is try to find out what are the statistics of the patients who are unsatisfied vs those who are satisfied. Then make your choice from there.
Also it is natural for we post-op people to feel that the surgeon that did their surgeries are the best. We're biased. It is unusual for someone to stand up and say their surgery went bad (though we do have at least one here who did just that).
This is not an easy decision, nor should it be. This is a one way trip, with only one chance, usually, to get it right. Think long and hard about what you want and who you want to do it. But if you are looking for the *perfect* surgeon to perform a flawless surgery every time, you will be sadly disappointed.
