Can I Break Your Heart?

"Do you mind if I break your heart?" Seems like a strange question doesn't it? And yet so many of us have had broken hearts. How does that happen? No one signs up for a relationship with the goal of breaking hearts, right? Certainly no one signs up for a relationship to get his heart broken.

So how do broken hearts happen? I believe one of the major culprits is a lack of boundaries. You see, the owner and operator of your life is none-other-than you! Every choice you make, every behavior you engage in, every feeling you express, every thought you have is yours. Boundaries are the lines we draw around us that protect what is ours.

Who, when, and how you allow others to access you is something you control (or at least something you can control if you aren't). It stands to reason then, that should an achy-breaky-heart occur, you may be guilty of not identifying, creating and enforcing healthy boundaries for your self.

Probably, but shouldn't you ask if you may break it?

The author of that article is my therapist. She is absolutely wonderful. If any of you are looking for one in the Indiana area I highly recommend her.

Ellieka, based on reading a few of her blogs, she sounds like a wonderful, compassionate person!
