Contrary to much of the chatter on the Internet, Pope Benedict's year-end 2008 Christmas message to the Catholic Church's Roman Curia was not an "attack on gay people." There was, in fact, not one  reference to  homosexuality or gay marriage in the speech. It did, however, address gender and the created order.
