Sam Adams was sworn in yesterday, in a ceremony with his mother and partner present.

Adams won the job seven months ago in a primary race by capturing 58 percent of the vote and therefore negating the need for a runoff election. None of Adams' opponents raised his sexuality in the race. Neither did he. "This is a testament to how fair-minded Portlanders are that it wasn't an issue," Adams said. "I spend my time on the basic issues of life. A part of that includes equal rights, but that's not even close to a majority of the time."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

That's awesome.  Janet, is Portland a really nice place to live?  Are there opportunities there?

Portland is very nice, very outdoors orientated, very liberal, and it has Lake Nonegros too if you only want to live with white people.

Umm, I'm pretty open minded I don't mind living with a diverse population.  Race means nothing to me, we're all human beings.

Well its got lots of funky old neighborhoods, very mixed.  And there is always Felony Flats, the more interesting parts of town.

Sounds like you have been here, Tekla.  Yes we are a very diverse community, GLBT friendly.  I live in a small area known as Fairview and I have had no problems.  I go where I want to, do what I want to.  In Downtown Portland is a very famous drag bar called Darcellis'.  Not only for the GLBT community, but many straights go there.

If you like rain and cooler tempatures, this is the place to be.

Darcellis - my son cooked in a place right around there.  Yeah, my older one went to PSU, and the younger one is at Eugene.  So I get up there once a year or so.

Not exactly my ideal weather, since I'm coming from snow and really cold temperatures...ugh there's just no easy way of figuring out where to move to.

But I'm glad they have an openly gay mayor.
