I never felt very connected to my family, but all the same I couldn't come out. Friends, could happen, but even then that's hard. I have a few who more or less know because I've dropped enough hints, but I still haven't talked about it.

It's sad but you kind of have to limit yourself to people who are open to something like this, and based on my mediocre knowledge of history this is one of the best times to be doing something like this. Trans is moderately accepted (though it has been treated better in earlier cultures) and the ability to transition is better than it has been at any point in the past. What you have before you is a truly unique and rare opportunity in the history of the human race. Yes it i going to shrink the number of people who will associate with you but if you move to the right places you'll find plenty of community.
