I mustered up the courage and decided to came out to my mother today. At first, I was very nervous (I got choked up a few times) because I was still worried about what her reaction would be. But once I told her about my crossdressing and my desire to be a woman, she was very understanding about it. I am so glad that I finally did it.

Congratulations Laura,

I am glad everything went OK..... Coming out is difficult enough, but parents offer a different challenge.

I came out to my parents 8 years ago and they disowned me.... It took the death of my mother last year to finally get my father to talk to me, we are now totally reconciled and have a great relationship , Father and Daughter.

Cherish that your Mother is understanding....

That's great news Laura.

As Buffy said parents are indeed a different challenge.  I came out to my mother last year and although it took her a while to respond to my letter (I was unable to do it face to face) she and my step dad accepted me.  I can honestly say that since then we have become so much closer.  I'm not sure how close you are to your mother but lets hope that this revelation will bring you even closer.  Great news for sure.

I am truly happy for you, Laura!  I think acceptance from our families is very important to many of us and becomes a great tragedy if it doesn't appear.

The timing of this post is curious in that my mom called this afternoon to tell me she will be visiting within two weeks.  She lives about 8 hours drive away.  This gives me an opportunity to come out to her in person which I really think is better than any other way if at all possible. (If only to be able to catch her when she faints, LOL!  She is, after all, 79 years old!)  I will be using the resources of this site very extensively for this one.  And I'll be giving alot of thought on how to go about it.

How wonderful for you to have passed that hurdle, and so successfully!
