I'm wary about Reality Wanted.  Autumn Sandeen, over at Pam's House Blend, reported that they recently issued a "casting call" which stated:
QuoteAre you an over the top drag queen who performs in nightclubs??

Are you new to the drag scene??

Are you or do you know of an over the top transexual who would like to share their story on TV?

If you said yes to any of the questions please reply with a recent pic, contact information, and a brief description of what you do.

I'm not sure if the two episodes of that show are one and the same, but even if they aren't, I have a feeling that Reality Wanted will want to sensationalize us.

Lol! chances are you are right.
network television can't even do right by white, adult, straight, honestly employed males.

I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. This is nothing new, more of the same. If this sounds interesting to you, imagine what it would look like with hundreds of hours of video spliced together into 40 minute long entertainment freak-fests. You'd say something like "I transitioned because I always knew who I was. Sex was not a big part of my transition. It's not like I'm out there on the street corner turning tricks or anything" and it would be spliced into little soundbits like "I transitioned because sex was a big part of my transition, I'm out there on the street corner turning tricks." Remember, those shows can do whatever they want with taped material. Pretty gross.

Sorry folks but life is hard enough already without having  media exposure destroy it completely.  Once they have you, life is no longer your own because they own YOU.

I much prefer choosing who knows my background and whom I tell of it, deliberately, slowly and on a need -to- know basis.  I am comfortable about myself now and can only imagine trouble if uncontained exposure should occur.

Remember, this is a news item informing you that this sort of thing is going on.

I think that most transwomen would pass these casting calls downwin, quietly, and at a great distance.

On the other hand, Harvey Milk debated the gay issues of the day in front of some of the most unfriendly, prejudiced audiences.  And in front of these audiences, he 'lost'.

But, finally, so did Proposition 6.

Thus..........KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM THE MEDIA IF YOU WANT A 'NORMAL' LIFE.

Reality is the main thing wanting in Reality (tm) television. It's on a par with Real (tm) Lemon and Genuine (R) Draft beer.
"Anyone who attempts to play the 'real transsexual' card should be summarily dismissed, as they are merely engaging in name calling rather than serious debate."

Oh such a shame.  I'm too old. I guess I'll have to wait for the next episode:  Granny ->-bleeped-<-s Gone Wild.

Positive signs: Transsexuals, Crossdressers
Red flags: ->-bleeped-<-s, Drag Queens, "Reality"
Notable Omissions: Androgynes, Cisgenders, other transgender

It's definitely not going to go well.

But they will have no problem getting enough people.  Lots of people really, really want to be on TV so bad they will do anything to make it happen.

And some people have done OK by media exposure, a lot of that depends on if you are RuPaul and people like you, or you're some sort of Jerry Springer type and they don't.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
