I've been post-operational for 2 months but my urine stream hasnt normalised.  When I go to the toilet, it goes all over the place.  Nasty. Have you experienced anything like it?

Two months is nothing Pia, there will still be some swelling and all the healing will not have taken place.

Also try some different sitting positions on the toilet, I had similar issues until I learned to lean forward a bit and tilt my pelvis.

Swelling can still be an issue as well as other anatomical issues that are still changing.

Also Buffy has a point.  All girls have to learn how to urinate without wetting themselves too much.  And each woman is different but leaning forward is a good rule of thumb to start with.  It took me a bit as well.

The first time I urinated it was like holding your thumb over a garden hose. :o  It went everywhere!

When the swelling goes down a bit you will find that the stream will be more consistant. You will learn. It is all about growing up.

Yes Pia and I have a bio one  :embarrassed:

My daughter is 2 and it seems to go everywhere. I always assumed it just worked like you would expect, but it does not look like it.

On a side note most guys I know can't help but get it everywhere either.

I concur with the others.  Although the neo-vagina may appear "healed" after three months, this is not usually the case internally, for it may take up to year for everything to normalize gradually, including your urine stream.  But I totally understand your embarrassment and disgust *hugs*  It is just one of those things that comes with the package of being newly post-op.  At least at home one can deal with these sorts of "problems" but they are quite bothersome when they happen elsewhere.  ::)

Mine got better over time and after 6 months it was pretty straight.  Now 8 months later its straight as an arrow.  Like ever one else said it just takes time.

Emailed Marci about this & the incontinence problem I talked about before.  I find it gets worse when I laugh & or get nervous.  Marci says this is normal the first six months after GRS but shoud improve so I'm hoping.

Just a note, hon: A LOT of women have this problem when they laugh or sneeze. Or even exercise. Not fun, but pretty common.  :)

I was warned about possible post operative incontinence as well.  I was advised to practice muscle control.  It's the well known Keegle exercise.  I'm sure that it can be googled for specifics.  But primarily starting and stopping your flow as you urinate will help rebuild muscle tone.

Having SRS is an incredible trauma to the groin.  Swelling and incontinence are understandable.  If you talk to women who have had cesareans you'll find that many of them may be incontinent for months following their procedure.

I wish you all the best Jeannette.  I hope that everything gets back to normal for you soon!

We went to the same surgeon.  Practically we missed each other by days.  Yup I've experienced the same thing.  :)
I've got nothing more to add but reiterate what everybody's said. Don't want to cloud your thread with the same advice.  Check your e-mails. You've got mail.

my normal advice would be to do Kegel's....   but now I'm sitting here and trying to figure out if MTFs have the appropriate musculature.  help!

Short answer is "Yes we do!"

Actually there is quite a bit of similarity between the male and female genitalia.  The differentiation occurs in the womb near the end of the first trimester, I believe.  But up to that point we all start out as females.

I talk to my female doctor about my peeing. She said, All woman pee differently since they all have a different vagina. Some spray and some do not. You are a woman a unique woman with a unique vagina, allow it to be unique, I wipe my self after every pee myself. Think of it you have a sterilization unit to clean you after you go pottie.

Isn't that what every woman supposed to do after they go pottie anyways?

It's normal if the problem's minor but we were more concerned about making a mess every time we use the toilet.

Even after recovery, it can still vary over time.

NOTE: Urine is normally sterile when it exits the body.  But, loaded with nutrients, it's easily colonized by bacteria, which are what produce the odors.  So blotting up the moisture after peeing is more than sufficient if you're already healthy 'down there'.
